The Keys to “Rightly Dividing” Revelation 1

  1. 22 Chapters
  2. Heaven opens two times in the Book.
    • Revelation 4:1–2 — Heaven opens and somebody goes up. (The Rapture)
    • Revelation 19:11 — Heaven opens and somebody comes down. (The Second Coming)
      • Note the distinction between these two events:
        • Rapture
          • Jesus comes in the clouds FOR His saints.
          • Ends the Church Age and ushers in the Tribulation Period.
        • Second Coming
          • Jesus comes to the earth WITH His saints.
          • Ends the Tribulation Period and ushers in the Millennium.
  3. Those two events “DIVIDE” the Book into three sections.
    • Revelation 1–3
    • Revelation 4–19
    • Revelation 20–22
  4. God told John there would be three sections to the Revelation. (Rev. 1:19)
    • “The things which thou hast seen.” (Past)
    • “The things which are.” (Present)
    • “The things which shall be hereafter.” (Future)
  5. The actual time period in which John wrote the Revelation. (Rev. 1:10)
    • “I was in the Spirit”
    • “On the Lord’s Day”
  6. From the standpoint of “the Lord’s Day,” this “DIVIDES” Revelation this way.
    • Revelation 1–3 – “hast seen” – (past) – “Church Age”
    • Revelation 4–19 – “which are” – (present) – “Tribulation to the Second Coming.”
    • Revelation 20–22– “which is to come”–(future)– Millennium, New Heaven/Earth, Eternity.
